Video game enthusiasts tend to be split among two camps: those who are fans of consoles and those who will always prefer desktop gaming.

Finding The Greatest Gaming Experience

PC gamers are often passionate about hardware, particularly in relation to custom gaming computers. Although PC gamers believe that nothing beats the gaming systems they envisioned and customized, they also follow gaming laptops with interest.

At PC Performance Pros, some of our dearest clients are video game enthusiasts whose gaming rigs have been designed in our shop; these are the type of clients who would probably save up for a gaming laptop, which tend to be expensive. These are also the type of clients who would lust after the amazing piece of hardware recently announced by Acer at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) in Berlin.

The Powerful Acer Predator 21X: Is It Worth It?

Acer is mostly known for its range of desktops and laptops that get acceptable consumer reviews. In the past, Acer has made a couple of gaming laptops that did not measure up to established competitors such as the legendary Alienware. At the 2016 IFA in Berlin, however, Acer introduced the jaw-dropping Predator 21X, which is unlike anything that the gaming world has seen before.

The Predator 21X is probably the largest and most powerful laptop ever designed. The panoramic display alone is a 21-inch curved screen with an incredible resolution of 2,560 x 1,080 pixels. This unusual laptop also has a number of frontal cameras and sensors that track your eyesight; this means that cursors, crosshairs, and other targeting systems can be controlled just by looking at the massive Predator 21X screen.

Gaming laptops are supposed to be able to handle advanced video game titles better than your average desktop; in the case of this portable machine, the specs far exceed most desktops currently in the market. The Predator is powered by a next-generation Intel Core CPU and twin NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 cards. This giant laptop is cooled by five fans and actually has room for a full mechanical keyboard that writers would fall in love with.

Although hardcore gamers will likely be mesmerized by the Predator 21X, there are three aspects to consider: power consumption, true portability, and pricing. With all that processing power, this laptop cannot run on batteries for too long. Weighing in at nearly 18 pounds, the Predator is not the most portable machine, and tech analysts in Berlin believe that initial pricing will be more expensive than a custom gaming system. In other words, this fancy laptop may replace a regular desktop, but not a custom gaming rig.
